Cryopreservation is the best choice for algal preservation and long-term storage because it minimizes genetic drift, facilitates strain and clone exchange between laboratories, and helps reduce maintenance labor and costs. Simply culture your cells for 2-5 days in the presence of Cryopreservation Reagent A, then harvest, resuspend them in Cryopreservation Reagent B, and freeze a small sample in one of the two recommended freezing containers at -80°C. The GeneArt™ Algae Cryopreservation Kit has been used to preserve 100% recovered strains of Chlamydomonas and Chlorella after thawing.
