Description:

This strain was identified it as a variety of C. moewusii. Both mating types were recovered from the original soil sample, and mating was obtained. However, it was unable to obtain agglutination or fusion with the principal laboratory strains of either C. moewusii or C. eugametos. It was confirmed that this lack of interfertility, and assigned the var. rotunda strains the designation of C. moewusii syngen III.
