Description:
The brs1 mutant, which was UV-induced in strain MUT-125, is chlorophyll-deficient and accumulates protoporphyrin IX. It is very light sensitive and must be grown in the dark. It was determined that the brs1 mutation is a frameshift in exon 10 of the CHLH gene. Cultures of the original brs1 mutant were brown. The r1 mutation enhances the accumulation of protoporphyrin. This strain appears dark brown and is very light-sensitive.
