Description:
This is a mutant in which most of the CEP290 gene has been deleted. The Y168 stain (cep290-1:: NIT1, nit1,agg1,mt+) was obtained by insertional mutagenesis of the g1 strain (nit1, agg1, mt+) with the NIT1 plasmid pGP505. The cep290-1 strain was obtained by backcrossing the original mutant Y168 to MUT-124. A mutant progeny from this first cross was backcrossed again to g1, and a mutant progeny from the second cross was designated as cep290-1. Mutant cells are mostly palmelloid and have very short/stumpy flagella once released from the mother cell wall by treatment with autolysin.
