Description:
This is the original y1 strain, as used in extensive series of experiments on Chlamydomonas greening. As y1 strains go, it seems to be reasonably stable, but users are advised to subclone for a good yellow-in-the-dark phenotype before using, since we maintain the strain in continuous light without selection for the yellow character. This strain can grow on nitrate. MUT-3992 is an equivalent strain. MUT-1168 is a more stable allele at the same locus, and MUT-1179 and MUT-1180 contain a stable but temperature-conditional allele.
