Description:
Product from a cross of MUT-86 nr-u-2-1 mt+ x arg2 mt-. This stock is not arginine-requiring. This is a useful chloroplast marker, mapping to the 3' end of the chloroplast 16S ribosomal RNA. The mutation is an A>G change at nucleotide 1340. Although isolated initially as a neamine-resistant strain, it is also resistant to kanamycin, a more readily available antibiotic.
