Control of Plant Nematodes by Alkaloids

Control of Plant Nematodes by Alkaloids

Alkaloids are a diverse group of amino acid-derived and nitrogen-bearing molecules that display a wide range of roles in nature, occurring in plants, microorganisms, or animals. Alkaloids are an extremely heterogenous group of plant secondary metabolites; while the taxonomy of alkaloids is complicated and ambiguous, their importance in the plant kingdom is clear. True alkaloids have been found in over one-fifth of all plant species, and over 12,000 unique alkaloids have been identified. Many are highly toxic and play essential roles in plant defense against pests and pathogens.

Lifeasible is committed to analyzing the role of alkaloids in the biological control of plant nematodes for scientific and clinical purposes. Our experienced scientists and technicians can provide comprehensive customized services for analysis at all stages. With novel strategies and proprietary features of our platform, we can adjust to meet the needs of each client.

Analysis of the Camalexin

  • Camalexin, a simple tryptophan-derived indole alkaloid, is the primary phytoalexin of the model plant A. thaliana. This small alkaloid and its secondary metabolite have been extensively studied and are implicated in A. thaliana resistance to a broad spectrum of pests and diseases.

  • Lifeasible provides analysis services of the camalexin against plant nematodes, such as identifying key genes and improving nematode resistance in plants by transgenic means.

Analysis of the Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids

  • Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are a group of naturally occurring alkaloids based on the structure of pyrrolizidine. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids are produced by plants as a defense mechanism against insect herbivores.
  • We provide analysis services of the pyrrolizidine alkaloids against plant nematodes, such as analysis of in vivo / in vitro nematocidal activity of pyrrolizidine alkaloids, and the data we present to our customers are the growth indicators of nematodes, reproduction indicators, and others.

Analysis of the Ergovaline

  • Ergovaline is an ergopeptine an alkaloid of the ergoline family. Like other ergoline alkaloids, it occurs in various species of vines of the Convolvulaceae (morning glory) family and some species of lower fungi.
  • We provide analysis services of the ergovaline against plant nematodes, including studying the nematocidal effects of alkaloids in vitro and overexpression / silencing the target critical genes in the biosynthetic pathway with transgenic means, etc.
