Determining the structure of natural organic compounds is one of the fundamental tasks of herbal medicinal chemistry, and providing the correct molecular structure is essential for subsequent studies in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, synthetic chemistry, and biosynthesis. Lifeasible can identify, prepare and structurally resolve organic small molecule compounds, including natural products, herbal active ingredients, and trace drug impurities, using techniques such as ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (H-NMR, C-NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS).

Determination of purity

The first observation is whether the shape and color are single and pure and whether the crystal shape is consistent.

Melting point determination.

Determination of physical constants

The physical constants we can determine for solid samples include melting point, specific spin, etc. For liquid samples, the physical constants that can be determined include boiling point, refractive index, specific spin, etc.

Molecular formula determination

We use high-resolution MS to obtain molecular ion peaks, which can directly lead to molecular formulae. You can also choose to measure the molecular weight first (usually by MS), then carry out an elemental analysis to measure the elements and their percentage content, find the experimental formula, and finally calculate the molecular formula.

Estimation of functional groups and molecular skeletons of compounds

We calculate unsaturation, chemical reactions, IR spectra, UV spectra, NMR spectra, MS data, etc., and analyze them together and compare them with known substances to determine the sample's basic backbone and functional groups (substituents) under test.

Determination of the chemical structure

We determine the chemical structure by combining all spectral data and, if necessary, performing special tests such as new methods in NMR or even tests such as X-ray diffraction. If required, we can assist you with the synthesis by comprehensively comparing the isolated sample from the herb with the synthetic product to prove the correct structure.
