Sawdust is a common substrate for mushroom growing because it is readily available and relatively inexpensive. Sawdust spawn is made by inoculating sawdust with live mycelium, which will then colonize the substrate. Once fully colonized, the sawdust spawn can be used to inoculate other substrates or fruiting pieces. The holes are usually drilled with a 12 mm auger bit with a stop or a 12.5 mm auger bit with a stop. Then use the palm inoculator or thumb inoculator to inject the spawn into the hole. Any type of hardwood sawdust can be used to make sawdust inoculum, generally, hardwood sawdust supplemented with soybean hulls. Cork sawdust is not suitable for the most common varieties of savory mushrooms. Each inoculation site should be immediately sealed with wax (we use melted cheese wax) or a foam cap, as sawdust strains are sensitive to drying out and must remain moist throughout the inoculation process.
Are you looking for an easy way to get into mushroom growing? Sawdust spawns are a great option because they are relatively easy to use and produce good results.
We guarantee that our strains will not be contaminated and will arrive alive and ready to use. Our strains are made from the highest quality raw materials and our strain production process is constantly monitored to ensure the best possible product. We also offer a variety of different sawdust spawn products for you to choose from as needed. Whether you are looking for flat mushroom strains, shiitake mushroom strains, or any other type of sawdust spawn, we can fulfill your needs.
Our sawdust spawns can be inoculated with a variety of substrates, including logs, wood chips, straw, and even coffee grounds. The best way to inoculate substrates with sawdust spawns is to mix the sawdust spawns with the substrate in a clean environment. When inoculating logs, it is best to drill holes in the logs and then fill the holes with sawdust spawn. Once the substrate is fully established, it can be used to grow mushrooms.
Lifeasible offers high-quality mushroom sawdust spawn products. Our sawdust spawns are grown in a sterile lab and produced year-round to ensure you get fresh mycelium. Since each mushroom has its own specific needs, we recommend contact us for more detailed growing information.
