Scientific Background
Synthetic pigments are mainly made from chemical products such as benzene, toluene and naphthalene. They are synthesized through a series of processes and have certain toxicity to the human body. However, due to their bright colors, strong coloring ability, and low cost, synthetic pigments are produced and abused. Internationally, it is not allowed to add edible synthetic pigments to baked goods in addition to flavor fillings. Moreover, only limited amounts of lemon yellow, sunset yellow and bright blue are allowed to be added to the flavor filling of baked food.
