This tropical and sub-tropical shrub or bushy tree, adorned with glossy, evergreen leaves, produces eye-catching pink and white flowers leading to striking bright red fruits covered in soft bristles. The inedible fruit is harvested for annatto seeds, a vital natural colorant widely used in the dairy industry, confectionery, bakery products, cosmetics, and leather dying.
