Description

This dwarf iris, bearing deep violet-blue flowers with narrow, deeply marked blue and white falls and violet veins, deserves wider cultivation. From Southern Italy, the Balkan Peninsula, and Turkey, this almost elusive plant becomes nearly invisible in the grass after flowering due to its totally grass-like leaves. A species closely related to Iris graminea, it is pollinated by ants.
