Aptly named, the Tibouchina, with its dazzling purple goblet-flowers that unfold like a five-bladed windmill, is a new addition to cultivation. As a slow-growing dwarf shrub, it proves stunning in sheltered spots or large containers indoors, derived from a Guianan indigenous name for the genus.
