Vaccinium Transformation

Vaccinium Transformation

Vaccinium is a deciduous shrub native to eastern Canada and the eastern and southern United States. It has been introduced in Japan, China, New Zealand, Europe, and more. Vaccinium is sweet and sour in flavor, rich in nutrients, and can prevent cerebral neurodegeneration, protect eyesight, strengthen the heart, anticancer, soften blood vessels, and enhance the immune function of the human body. Vaccinium is a small berry species with high economic value and broad development prospects, known as the "king of berries".

Lifeasible is characterized by a highly efficient and abundant plant genetic transformation system. After years of experimental research on plant genetic transformation, we have established a mature genetic transformation system for Vaccinium, which ensures the success rate of transformation and helps researchers promote the progress of Vaccinium research. We are currently able to provide a wide range of plant genetic transformation services, and we also have one-stop transgenic technology services such as gene function research and transgenic detection. We welcome inquiries from researchers.

What do we offer?

  • Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Agrobacterium tumefaciens is commonly used as a vector to deliver the desired genes into Vaccinium plants. The method involves creating a recombinant plasmid containing the gene of interest, transferring it into Agrobacterium, and then allowing the bacteria to infect plant tissues. The T-DNA region of the Agrobacterium transfers the foreign genes into the plant genome. Agrobacterium transformation method has been effectively used in Vaccinium transformation, and we have greatly improved the success rate of Vaccinium transformation by optimizing the transformation conditions, which plays a vital role in helping researchers to tap the genes that regulate critical agronomic traits, and in helping researchers to breed higher quality Vaccinium varieties.
  • Particle bombardment. This method, also known as the biolistics or gene gun, involves coating microscopic particles (such as gold or tungsten) with the desired DNA construct and then bombarding them into plant cells using a high-pressure helium gun. This allows the foreign genes to integrate into the plant genome. This transformation method is also applied to Vaccinium transformation, but the transformation success rate is lower than that of Agrobacterium transformation.

Our Researchers have focused on improving transformation efficiency in Vaccinium species. This includes optimizing plant tissue culture conditions, selecting suitable tissue explants for transformation, and fine-tuning the parameters of transformation methods.

Our research objectives

Vaccinium transformation research aims to improve various traits. For instance, studies have focused on enhancing resistance against pathogens and pests, increasing tolerance to abiotic stresses like drought or cold, modifying fruit characteristics such as size, color, flavor, and nutritional content, and developing marker genes for easy identification of transformed plants.
