Vitamins play an important role in animals and humans as they are involved in regulating the metabolism of substances in the body and regulating the normal life activities of the organism, and they have an important role in the growth and development of living things. Some vitamins that cannot be synthesized by the human body need to be obtained in food, and various types of food crops are the main source of necessary vitamins for humans. Currently, chemically synthesized vitamins currently have more adverse effects. In recent years, with the increasing demand for vitamins, the green and novel biosynthesis of vitamins in plants has received increasing attention.
Lifeasible has many years of service experience in agricultural biosynthesis and has provided safe and efficient solutions for the biosynthesis of vitamins in plants through in-depth research on plant nutrition. We have studied the metabolic pathway of vitamin synthesis by using cloning technology in addition to cloning related enzyme genes and have successfully cloned more genes encoding vitamin synthesis pathway-related genes. So far, we have identified gene regulatory mechanisms of vitamin production from spinach, pumpkin, soybean, rice, tomato, and other plants. In addition, we also use bioengineered E. coli for vitamin synthesis in plants.
Microbial fermentation is one of the existing ways to obtain vitamins in plants. Still, this approach has long fermentation cycles, high production costs, difficulties in genetic modification of industrial production strains, and great difficulty in improving yields. Lifeasible uses synthetic biology to design from scratch the synthetic pathways for assembling vitamins in plants, such as the biosynthesis of vitamin B12, which can be achieved in heterologous cells. By analyzing the mechanism of vitamin synthesis, we divide the vitamin synthesis pathway into different modules and mainly use the "top-down" strategy to assemble and regulate multiple genes from more bacteria in E. coli, which effectively solves the problem of the adaptation mechanism of multiple genes, and forms an ab initio designed pathway that integrates genes from different sources. The artificial pathway finally realized the ab initio synthesis of vitamins in plants. This technical service not only provides a necessary technical support and research strategy for vitamin biosynthesis in plants, but also we have successfully achieved the orderly functional expression and regulation of dozens of genes in the chassis cells, demonstrating the great potential of model strains in the synthesis of complex natural products of heterologous origin, and accelerating the research progress of heterologous biosynthesis of complex natural products.
