Kinship Identification of Plant Species

Kinship Identification of Plant Species

Widespread and long-term use of techniques such as seed introduction, hybridization, and grafting in agriculture and cultivation has produced a wealth of plant germplasm resources through genetic variation, natural selection, and artificial selection. But this has also led to confusion about species. Many plant species suffer from mixed strains and unclear interspecific kinship, which significantly hinders the healthy and sustainable development of the plant industry. Identifying the kinship of plants can provide a favorable reference for the conservation of plant germplasm resources and the study of the origin and evolution of plant species.

Lifeasible, a leading company in plant molecular biology technology, can provide you with customizable plant species kinship identification services. We have partnered with several leading biotechnology companies to bring together various resources to provide you with the highest quality service.

What We Offer

Based on molecular marker technologies ranging from next-generation sequencing to long-read sequencing, our plant species kinship identification service can meet almost all of your experimental needs.

  • Random amplified polymorphic DNA markers (RAPD): RAPD is centered on molecular hybridization and mainly amplifies plant DNA using synthetic random nucleotide sequences as primers. We analyze the kinship between plants by the polymorphism of the amplification products.
  • Inter-simple sequence repeats markers (ISSR): ISSR uses short repeat sequences as primers to amplify DNA fragments between plant microsatellite repeats, which has the advantage of being simple and fast to perform.
  • Amplified fragment length polymorphism markers (AFLP): AFLP techniques are mainly used for the construction of genetic maps, the identification of genes, and the identification of hybrids to assist in determining the kinship between plants and to facilitate selection and breeding by botanists.
  • Simple sequence repeats markers (SSRs): SSRs, also known as microsatellite DNA, are widely distributed in eukaryotic genomes. The number of SSR repeats varies between individuals, resulting in length polymorphism. We amplify SSR fragments by PCR reactions and use the differences in DNA fragment size to analyze the degree of plant relatedness.
  • Single nucleic acid polymorphism markers (SNPs): This technique sequences plants with high-throughput simplified genomes to obtain polymorphic SNPs and is suitable for analyzing and constructing phylogenetic trees of different species in the same genus of plants.
  • Internally transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence analysis: The use of ITS sequences and a variety of analytical methods (BLAST comparison, SNP locus analysis, etc.) for species identification of plants is suitable for building phylogenetic trees to understand the richness, degree of variation, and relatedness of plant species.
