Detection of Sugar

Detection of Sugar

Determining the content of multiple sugars in milk and milk products is essential. For milk-related research, quality control, milk product production, or health concerns, determining multiple sugar contents in milk and milk products is essential. Lactose is the main sugar component of raw milk. The amount of lactose in raw milk can indirectly reflect the health status of the milk-producing animals. During subsequent processing of milk and milk products, some sugars may be added or produced, and lactose may be removed or broken down depending on the needs of the product. For example, lactose needs to be eliminated from lactose-free milk products. In addition, many people will choose milk and milk products without added sugars or sugar-free for a healthier option. Lifeasible helps to detect multiple sugars in milk and milk products through methods that comply with international standards.

Our Services

We mainly help detect sugars, including lactose, sucrose, and lactulose. We also help analyze a wide range of sugars in milk and milk products, including monosaccharides (e.g., galactose, glucose, fructose, fucose, and arabinose), disaccharides (e.g., maltose, isomaltulose, trehalose, and melibiose), and trisaccharides (e.g., maltotriose).

Determination of the sugar contents

We help determine the six most important sugars naturally present or added in milk and milk products using high-performance anion exchange chromatography combined with the pulsed amperometric detection method (HPAEC-PAD). The method can also determine other sugars and can therefore be used to analyze sugar contents in milk and milk products. It is worth noting that this method is ideal for the accurate detection of lactose content in milk and milk products with low lactose content.

Determination of the sucrose content

Sucrose is an important added sugar in sweetened condensed milk. We help to determine the sucrose content in sweetened condensed milk based on the polarimetric method and the HPAEC-PAD method. The specific determination method is chosen according to the sample condition and determination needs.

Determination of the lactose content

The determination of lactose in milk and milk products is of utmost importance. We offer several methods to determine lactose in milk and milk products, including the HPAEC-PAD method, the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method, and the enzymatic method using the difference in pH, the glucose, or the galactose moiety of the lactose. Each of these methods has its determination range, determination advantages, and relative shortcomings. Customers can inform our technicians about their lactose determination needs, and we will help them choose the suitable method.

Determination of the lactulose content

The lactulose content can indirectly reflect the heat treatment of milk and milk products. We offer an enzymatic method and an HPAEC-PAD method to help determination of the lactulose content. To better determine the heat treatment of milk and milk products, other indicators, such as lactoperoxidase activity, phosphatase activity, and furosine, need to be determined.
