Plant Protection by Gene Editing

Plant Protection by Gene Editing

Lifeasible is dedicated to developing new plant protection solutions using advanced technologies and provides gene editing services for plant protection. We mainly provide services for the gene editing of plants.

Gene editing is also called genome editing. Gene editing technology has been of great value in plant protection. It is promising to edit plant genes and pathogen genes to protect plants (Fig. 1). Gene editing-based methods for plant protection are continuously developed with the development of CRISPR/Cas. For example, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated multiple gene editing of three TaEDR1 homologs in wheat shows resistance to powdery mildew. In addition, gene editing technology combined with RNA interference technology to develop host-induced gene silencing (HIGS) also plays an important function in plant protection. HIGS-based control of pests, plant fungi, and plant viruses is achievable. Using gene editing technology to protect plants from pests and diseases is considered promising. Lifeasible keeps pace with the era and provides gene editing services for plant protection.

Our Services

We provide plant, pest, fungal, and bacterial gene editing services for plant protection, and we focus on the gene editing of plants.

Gene-edited organisms Specific gene editing services
Gene-edited plants
  • We offer gene editing to knock out susceptibility genes in plants to improve the resistance to plant bacteria, fungi, and viruses. For example, the knockout of cytochrome P450 CYP71A1 in rice can enhance resistance to hoppers and borers. Susceptibility genes are often involved in plant growth and development, and complete knockout of the gene may lead to death. In this case, we would consider using gene editing-based HIGS to knock down the susceptibility gene. This can achieve a partial increase in resistance while ensuring plant growth.
  • We offer to knock in plant resistance genes to enhance plant resistance to pathogenic microorganisms, pests, abiotic stress environments, and herbicides. We offer to edit target plants to express their resistance genes and resistance genes of other wild species. All these resistance genes are valuable resources for plant protection.
  • We offer to knock in biocontrol agents-related genes to express biocontrol agents with plant protection effects, including microbial metabolites, plant metabolites, and semi-chemicals that can be used to control pests, pathogenic microorganisms, and viruses.
Gene-edited pests
  • Controlling the reproductive capacity of pests based on gene editing is considered a systematic approach to control pests. Furthermore, affecting the survival of pests through gene editing also provides some control. We provide to reduce the reproductive and survival capacity of pests using gene editing. You can check out "Insect Gene Editing" to know more information about gene editing of harmful insects.
Gene-edited microorganisms
  • We provide services to knock out resistance genes in plant pathogenic fungi to reduce the invasiveness and virulence of fungi to plants and the resistance of fungi to defensive substances of plants and agrochemicals.
  • We offer gene-editing services to express biocontrol agents with pest-killing effects in microorganisms for plant protection against pests. We specially provide gene-editing services to express biocontrol agents in pest-pathogenic microorganisms for enhanced pesticidal capabilities.
  • We offer gene editing to edit microorganisms to produce bioactive substances to control plant pathogenic microorganisms.

In addition to the gene editing services described above for direct use in plant protection, we also offer gene editing services for plant protection-related research. We provide customized gene editing services according to the needs of our clients.

Gene editing can be used to develop environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions for plant protection. Lifeasible offers various gene editing services to facilitate the application of gene editing in plant protection. Particularly, we have extensive experience in plant gene editing. We can efficiently perform gene editing on plants. We specialize in using gene editing to enhance plant resistance genes or blocking susceptibility genes to improve plant resistance. If you have any of the above gene editing needs, please contact us.
